ABOUT THE ANTI-HUMAN TRAFFICKING UNIT

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (ATU) was set up in 2020 and is responsible for the Anti-Human Trafficking reform.

The ATU oversees the implementation of the National Strategy and Action Plan on Combatting Trafficking in Human Beings in Malta (2024-2030) which has been developed through a Joint EU DG Reform and Council of Europe project. It oversees the National Strategy and Action Plan on Combatting Trafficking in Human Beings 2024–2030 and fulfils national coordination and reporting functions in collaboration with the relevant government entities, social partners, NGOs, and other stakeholders.

ATU also leads national awareness raising campaigns on human trafficking with the aim of informing the public on the red flags of modern slavery and encouraging the reporting of any suspicious activity. Awareness raising efforts are also aimed towards victims and those at risk of human trafficking in order to encourage self-identification and to promote support services.
