HRIU works on national awareness raising which is targeted to different groups. It targets the public with the aim of informing them on what constitutes the crime of human trafficking, ensuring that the public is knowledgeable about the indicators of trafficking and sharing the relevant contact information to report suspicious activities. It also targets victims to inform them about red flags and indicators of trafficking, their rights, and the relevant authorities and support services they can access to seek help.
Awareness raising material includes the use of phrases and direct questions aimed to help victims self-identify, report their situation to the authorities, and access victim support through the numbers provided.
The following leaflets were developed that target the public to increase knowledge on human trafficking and child trafficking. The leaflets include definitions and forms of human/child trafficking, indicators, and avenues for reporting.

The following posters were developed, printed and disseminated to various entities that might be frequented by victims or potential victims of THB such as health centres, and Identita’, DIER, and Jobsplus offices.
Awareness raising campaigns aim to encourage the public not to remain passive in front of these realities, and to report suspicious criminal activity to the crime stop number (119) to help ensure the protection of victims of human trafficking.
The campaign included a series of designs for billboards and bus shelters installed around Malta and Gozo focusing on the national effort to PREVENT human trafficking, PROTECT victims, PROSECUTE human trafficking offenders and raise awareness among the public about the need to REPORT the crime of human trafficking.
