Gender Wellbeing Clinic: Comprehensive Care for Transgender and Gender Diverse Individuals in Malta

OUR MISSION

At the core of our mission lie the principles of human rights and equality, ensuring that transgender and gender non-conforming persons receive respectful, dignified, and non-discriminatory healthcare provision.

The Gender Wellbeing Clinic in Malta offers specialized care for trans and non-binary individuals through a dedicated team of professionals. Our multidisciplinary team includes experts from various medical fields such as endocrinology, urology, gynecology, plastic surgery, psychiatry, and pediatric care. The team is also supported by a psycho-social team consisting of social workers, psychologists, counselors, family therapists, and a speech language pathologist.

The Clinic is led by a Consultant Endocrinologist, with operational management and client care coordinated by our Charge Nurse. We are further supported by public health specialists in planning, policy, and service implementation.

Key Services Provided by the Gender Wellbeing Clinic:

  • Initial Assessment: Conducted by our specialist nurse, who serves as the first point of contact to gather background information, including medical history, previous gender-affirming interventions, and the specific services needed.

  • Psycho-social Support: Emotional and psychological support for individuals and their families.

  • Family Support: Guidance and assistance for families to support their trans or non-binary members.

  • Hormone Therapy: Prescription and follow-ups by our Endocrinologist.

  • Voice Therapy: Assistance from a speech language pathologist.

  • Psychiatric Care: Access to psychiatric support and counseling.

  • Medical Procedures: Including orchiectomy, hysterectomy, and gamete preservation.

Note: Currently, the following services are not covered: vaginoplasty, phalloplasty, hair removal, and facial surgery.

Getting Started with the Gender Wellbeing Clinic

The Gender Wellbeing Clinic is located at A3 Towers, Arcade Street, Paola. All visits are by appointment only.

Referral Process: To access our services, you can be referred by a GP, nurse, psychologist, counselor, or social worker. Referrals can be sent via email to [email protected]. You also have the option to fill out the Gender Wellbeing Clinic referral form online.

Standards of Care

We follow the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) standards, adapted to Malta’s legal framework, and we base our approach on informed consent to care.
