SOGIGESC Unit Annual Conference 2022




​The Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Gender Expression and Sex Characteristics (SOGIGESC) Unit held its Annual Conference on Monday 5th September as part of the Pride Week calendar of events.

The Parliamentary Secretary for Reforms and Equality, Rebecca Buttigieg welcomed the publication of the Annual Report outlining the work carried out over the last year, in achieving the measures outlined in the LGBTIQ Equality Strategy and Action Plan 2018-2022. The report lists initiatives to achieve equality in the fields of sport, education, health, asylum, the voluntary sector and the disciplined forces among others.

In her address, Parliamentary Secretary Rebecca Buttigieg spoke about the government's commitment to further strengthen the legal framework of our country. She reiterated the commitment to advance the Equality Bill and the Commission's Human Rights and Equality Bill, two decisive legislative proposals in the field of human rights and non-discrimination.

The Conference entitled Diversity as strength: Putting LGBTIQ equality into practice, included two panel discussions. The first on non-binary identities was introduced by Noah Fabri based on his performance ‘Huma Min Huma?’. The second focused on how to better equip Malta to host Europride next year.
