The Human Rights Initiatives Unit within the Human Rights Directorate has been tasked with spearheading the cannabis reform as well as any other ad hoc action plans.
This reform falls in line with the 2017 electoral manifesto to launch a national discussion on cannabis for recreational use, but also to ensure conformity with the recent international developments and change in EU acquis.
On the 3rd November 2022 the Authority for the Responsible Use of Cannabis (ARUC) located at Level 4, Onda Business Centre, Aldo Moro Street, Marsa assumed the full responsibility of the Cannabis Reform, the administration of the LINE VOTE 5206 and the legal obligations to monitor and report on the implementation of the initiatives related to the Reform. Therefore the management of the initiatives related to YACAD Schemes, the contractual obligations between MHSR and FSWS on 'Substance Abuse Programmes' and Awareness Raising Initiatives are now officially managed by ARUC.
