International Women’s day – 8th March 2020

8th March is a global day celebrating Women. It is a day dedicated to celebrate and reflect on the achievements and astonishing roles of women and challenges that women encounter. An exhibition in celebration of Women’s Day was launched in Valletta on 6th March 2020, set up in Tritons' Square. The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr Lydia Abela, the Prime Minister’s wife, as well as the Minister for Equality Dr Edward Zammit Lewis and Parliamentary Secretary for Equality Rosianne Cutajar.
The exhibition celebrates the achievements of 12 inspirational Maltese women. It includes Maltese European Commissioner for Equality Dr Helena Dalli, State Advocate Dr Victoria Buttiġieġ, CEO Maria Micallef, footballer Nicole Sciberras, Education Aide Jane Marshall, lawyer and social activist Dr Sara Ezabe, first female criminal trial lawyer in Malta Dr Giannella de Marco, equality activist Joanne Sciberras Edwards, feminist Claudette Abela Baldacchino, specialised radiologist Dr Salvina Żrinżo, former President of the Republic of Malta Agatha Barbara and the acting President of the Republic of Malta Dolores Cristina.
